History

The study program for senior citizens started in 1980 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Ludger Veelken as a pilot project at the then University of Dortmund and was established as a regular program after a five-year trial phase.

In the more than 40 years of its existence, the program has been finished by more than 1,300 senior students, of whom about 85% pursue voluntary activity in institutions, associations, self-help groups or in self-initiated projects in the social sector, in culture, education, sports and leisure work.

The aim of the study programme for senior citizens is to further promote and expand this development.

In 2020, the 40th anniversary of the study program was celebrated with a great celebration.
